Plan your room before moving day
Draw your room to scale, put your furniture in, and see what fits. laeout also shows where you can walk, where the sun comes in and what people can see from the hallway. No download and no account.
Start from your real room
Type in the wall lengths, or add the floor plan from the listing and trace over it. Doors swing the way yours do, windows have real sill heights, and closets, heaters and outlets sit where they are.
Then add furniture. Beds, desks and dressers go against a wall on their own, nightstands next to the bed. Use standard sizes or measure your own and save them for next time.
Catch the tight spots
A piece turns red when it hits a wall or another piece, and amber when it blocks a door or doesn't leave room to open its drawers.
The walk check floods the floor you can reach from the door. Paths under 60 cm (24") are marked as a squeeze, and anything you can't get to at all is called out.
See where the light falls
Tell laeout which way your windows face and which city you're in. It works out where direct sun lands for any day and hour, as a map on the plan and as real light in 3D. Handy for a desk, a reading chair or plants, or for keeping early sun off your pillow.

- Edit with AI. Copy the plan as text into ChatGPT or Claude, ask for changes, and paste the answer back.

Questions
Is laeout free?
Yes. There's no account and nothing to pay. It's in beta, so things may still change.
Where are my plans saved?
In your browser, on the device you're using. File → Back up everything saves a copy you can open on another device, or send yourself a share link.
Can I trace over the floor plan from a listing?
Yes. In Edit room, add the picture, drag along a wall whose length you know to set the scale, then drag your walls onto it. Sideways or crooked scans can be turned and straightened. The picture stays in your browser.
Can I use feet and inches?
Yes. Switch units any time and type lengths in any of them, like 5' 3", 160cm or 1.6m.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, including touch to drag, rotate and look around in 3D. A bigger screen is easier for detailed editing.
How accurate is the sunlight view?
It uses the sun's real position for your latitude, date and time, and your windows' positions and heights. It doesn't know about neighbouring buildings, trees or weather, so treat it as the best case.
Can ChatGPT or Claude design a layout for me?
They can help. The JSON tab shows your whole plan as text; Copy for AI copies it with instructions. Paste it into a chatbot with your request, then paste the reply back and the plan updates.
